Regal Theatre Shuts Down after 84 Years

DelhionWeb: 31 Mar, 2017, The iconic Regal Theater of Delhi is closed for ever since today. There are many memories of Kapoor Family associated with this theater. Rishi Kapoor is saying goodbye to Regal while sharing these memories.


The curtain of the Regal Theater in Delhi's Connaught Place area will fall today forever. Regal has been a witness to many important moments of Hindi cinema. Specially, Kapoor Family has kept the memories of this cinema very closely, which is also associated with Prithviraj Kapoor. That is why, on the last day of Regal, two shows of Raj Kapoor's two classic films My Name Joker and Sangam have been kept. Rishi Kapoor's emotional attachment to this theater is also because, as his hero debut, Bobby's premiere also happened in Regal. That is why the sage has said goodbye to Regal.


Regal was designed by architect Walter George and it started in 1932. In conversation with PTI, its owner Vishal Chaudhary said, "Regal has a deep connection with Prithviraj Kapoor and his son Raj Kapoor. Prithviraj used to play Regal Theater, then Raj Kapoor used to premiere all his films in Regal. Anushka Sharma's Fillouri became the last film to be shown in Regal.
